The easiest way to install MeqTrees is to use the binary version for Ubuntu 8.04. If you are running this OS then it's an entirely trivial process involving adding a new repository to your package manager. See the Wiki link for more info.

If you're running a different OS then I'd recommend installing Ubuntu 8.04 on a VM (e.g. VirtualBox), although your mileage may vary depending on the specs of your machine.
