SBIG Spectrograph

The department has an SBIG DSS spectrograph which can be used on the telescope. It should provide long slit spectra at R~300 of R~2000, and is mainly intended for undergraduate project use.

The low resolution mode has been tested and seems to work reasonably well. It is possible to guide on targets down to ~14th magnitude, which is about the faint limit of the spectrograph anyway. A 13th mag continuum object will give a S:N~5-10 in about 1 hour in low resolution.

The spectrograph is used with the ST7 camera.

The spectrograph will be equiped with a fibre-feed during 2013/4 (WISP)
